10 Most Horrible Celebrity Hairstyles Ever

When you are famous, you are constantly judged on your looks. You do need to keep your audience entertained. Having to come up with great new styles all the time, though, can be hard for anyone.

It is only a matter of time before you try something that goes horribly wrong. Take the celebrity hairstyles on this list, for example. These actresses, who can usually be depended on to make the best fashion choices, have had their share of blunders.

1. Scarlett Johansson

In 2006, Esquire magazine awarded Scarlett their Sexiest Woman Alive title. Yet not every look that she tries is all that attractive. In 2003, when Scarlett arrived at the 18th Annual IFP Independent Spirit Awards, no one could stop talking about her strange mullet. It was the kind of ratty, spiked-hair look that Jodie Foster’s character wore in The Accused. The hairdo has made it to worst hairstyle lists ever since.

2. Kesha

Kesha does frequently favor adventurous hairstyles, rainbow-colored hair being a regular choice. At an American Music Awards after-party once, she picked  a particularly curious mullet. While it resembled Scarlett’s mullet, it was longer. The fact that she wore black-gold-purple lipstick with it did not help.

3. Miley Cyrus

During her time with Disney, Miley Cyrus had long, schoolgirl-style hair. When she began to strike out on her own, though, Miley felt she needed to do all kinds of new things to her hair to be taken seriously.

She tried cutting her hair extremely short, sweeping the long hair at the back of her head up front. Then, she decided to try a halfhearted military cut – hair only on the top and nothing but stubble on the sides.

Her look for the Wrecking Ball video tried another angle. She shaved the hair on the sides, but kept her hair long at the center. She also dyed her hair a dirty blonde. The hairstyle actually took, though – YouTube is full of videos that show you how to get the style.

4. Mariah Carey

In the year 2000, Mariah Carey turned 30. It was about this time that she began to favor a curious hairstyle – she gathered her hair into a ponytail that hung to the left of her head. It could have been a style that looked adorable on an 8-year-old. At 30, it made Mariah look somewhat unbalanced.

5. Julia Roberts

For years now, Julia Roberts has had somewhat predictable hair. Her hair does look at its best when worn to the middle of her back, the way she prefers it. Back in 1990, she had not figured her style out yet. The year Pretty Woman came out, the actress tried a version of the Flock of Seagulls hairstyle. Fortunately, it was not a long-lived experiment.

6. Jennifer Lopez

When Jennifer Lopez goes to the Academy Awards, her style statements are not usually subtle ones. In 2002, she decided she would try big hair. With her caramel blonde shoulder-length hair puffed up and a section on front pulled back down the center of her head, her style seemed like a throwback to the 80s. 20 years past its day, it did not work very well.

7. Christina Aguilera

While other stars have a couple of bad choices over their careers, Christina Aguilera could have a top 10 list of unfortunate hairstyles all to herself. From a blonde Afro to a style that looked like a shaven head with 4 or 5 thick dreadlocks, Christina Aguilera is more hair-challenged the most stars.

8. Madonna

The year 1998 was when Madonna came out with Ray of Light, her coolest album ever. It was also the year she chose her least cool hairstyle ever – long, ginger-colored hair with severe, straight-cut bangs over her forehead. Luckily, she did quickly change it.

9. Gwen Stefani

Like Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stephanie loves zany experiments with her hair, too. At one point in her early years, Gwen had a weakness for rainbow-colored hair. She’d dye her hair pink, yellow or bright blue.

She would also do up her hair in the strangest styles – thick dreadlocks, extremely thin dreadlocks, bangs that extended to the center of her head, and hair that was so chemically altered, it seemed as if she had nothing but flyabouts. Thankfully, she found out in the late 90s that platinum blonde hair really worked for her, and she stuck to it.

10. Victoria Beckham

The former Spice Girl usually has straight, shoulder-length hair that she wears in simple style. From time to time, though, Victoria likes to cover her hair in a doo-rag. It has ever been a flattering look for the normally elegant singer.

A few mistakes are inevitable when one tries out different looks. For stars, though, those mistakes are remembered forever. So do not follow their examples and do not make the same mistakes when creating your own hairstyle.
