Career and Achievement

Hunter started his film career in 1950 with the movie named The Lawless. The Lawless is a American film noir directed by Joseph Losey and featured by Macdonald Carey, Gail Russell. The Sea Chase, one of the Hunter’s movie was a big hit, but his part was relatively small.

Tab’s career was on peak. William Wellman used him again in a war film, Lafayette Escadrille in 1958. In the same year Columbia Pictures borrowed him for a Western, Gunman’s Walk, a film which Hunter considered his favorite role. The actor failed to win the role of Tony in the film adaptation of West Side Story in 1961 and then he had a starring role as Debbie Reynolds love  interest in The Pleasure of His company. 

In the early 1970s, Tab had the lead role in Sweet Kill, the first movie from director Curtis Hanson. While in the 1980s, Hunter’s career was revived, when he starred opposite actor Divine in John Waters’ Polyester and Paul Bartel’s Lust in the Dust.

In 2015, the actor played the last film, Tab Hunter Confidential. This movie is a documentary scene about Hunter’s life as a matinee idol.

In 1957, Hunter had a hit record with the song “Young Love” which was no.1 on Billboard Hot 100 chart for six weeks and also became one of the larger hits of the Rock n Roll era. Hunter had another hit single, “Ninety-Nine Ways”, which peaked at no.11 in the United States and rank No.5 in the United Kingdom.

Tab Hunter deserved and hence received the Lifetime Achievement Award at California Independent Film festival. For the Lambda Literary Award for Belles Lettres, he was nominated.
