Ryan Rogers was a 14-year-old William T. Dwyer High School student. The teen was last spotted leaving home on his bicycle at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening. He never returned and was reported missing. His mother, Cindy Rogers, and other family and friends requested help in getting Ryan via social media. Palm Beach County school district officials confirmed the off-campus death of a Dwyer High School student in a statement, but did not identify the person:

“It is with great sadness that I inform you that we have lost a student, and member of the Dwyer family in a tragic accident. Out of respect and privacy for the family, I am not sharing the student’s name at this time.”

According to police, Ryan Rogers’ body was found Tuesday morning, one day after he was reported missing. His body and a bicycle were located near the sidewalk on Central Boulevard and the 1-95 overpass the next morning. At the scene, he was identified and declared dead.

However, Rogers’ death was later ruled a homicide by investigators. The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department issued a news release on November 24th stating, “We now know that Ryan Rogers’ death was not an accident, but a deliberate act.”  Police said Williams stabbed Rogers – multiple times in the face and neck during a chance encounter on Central Boulevard near the Interstate 95 overpass.

“The loss of Ryan is unimaginable and I never thought I would ever not see him play soccer again, or spend vacation with him or see him walk through the door or send him off to school every morning,” Cynthia Rogers wrote.

“His smile, his laugh and his heart is what I remember the most. I was blessed to have him as my son. He was pretty easy as far teenagers go. Just a good kid,” she said.

Police in Palm Beach Gardens announced the arrest of a 39-year-old man in the killing of 14-year-old Ryan Rogers. According to investigators, Semmie Lee Williams Jr. will face a first-degree murder charge in Rogers’ death after he left his residence on his bicycle about 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 15. After his mother reported him missing, officers found his body the next day.

“My heart hurts for the Rogers family,” Mayor Rachelle Litt told The Palm Beach Post at a news conference announcing the arrest. “I’m relieved we have the answers we need from our police department. They’re the best.”
