The wedding destiny, 1991: where did Clint and Lisa get married?

On his 180-acre Houston farm, Clint Black married Lisa Hartman. One week later, he was back at the altar, this time as the best man for his bus driver, Brad Thompson, who married Lorrie Morgan. Clint and Lisa were both nominated for a Grammy for their touching duet, “When I Said I Do.”

How did they meet and started the dating?

Clint Patrick wife and himself first met on New Year’s Eve 1990, when the actress went to one of Black’s concerts in Houston, where they both grew up. It was the country singer’s first headline show back in his hometown after a record-breaking year that had established him as a household name. Black was ill with a cold at the time. The crowds that had gathered backstage to welcome him were both thrilling and daunting to him. He wasn’t looking for love in the first place.

Then his boss added Lisa Hartman, and the commotion subsided for the time being. She was stunning, and Black couldn’t help but look her in the eyes. The attraction wasn’t just physical, though. “Anyone would be taken by her looks but she was a really, really pleasant person and I didn’t know her from Eve. I’d never seen her movies. All I knew was that she was a TV actress,” he says.

Despite the fact that their meeting was short, mutual relations ensured that the two young stars met again. When Black came to Los Angeles for a Tonight Show appearance, they had their first dinner date, and they continued to make time for each other after that.

“We continue to laugh,” Lisa explained. “We’ve gone through our struggles, like all couples, but we’ve continued to keep our sense of humor.” Added Clint, “We nurture our marriage. When Roy Rogers found out we were getting married, he said, ‘I’ll give you one little piece of advice — don’t ever go to bed angry.’ And he was right. What we’ve always done is deal with emotions and problems as they come along. Because you will embarrass each other, you will confuse each other, you will upset each other, you will hurt each other’s feelings — two people can’t live a life together without doing that. But when you come from the starting point of ‘I know you didn’t want to hurt me,’ that’s the key.”

Clint Patrick and Lisa Black daughter

Clint and Lisa reconnected with their common Southern roots and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2002 after nearly a decade of living in Los Angeles, California. They had a daughter, Lily Pearl Black, in 2001, just before making the big step. Clint Black and Lisa Hartman have only one child, Lily Pearl Black.

The couple recognizes that not all couples are as lucky, and they appreciate the freedom to plan their own schedules. Hartman Black opted to stay at home with their daughter, Lily, after she was born, and she became more cautious about the film roles she accepted.

Clint’s job keeps him from spending time with his family, but he and his wife have still taken advantage of offers when the company agreed to collaborate.
