Courtney is a reporter for KMSP Fox 9 since June 2015. She began her career in journalism in May 2006 as an intern at KGO-TV until August 2006. Her roles involved researching consumer complaints about fraudulent companies and proposed news stories, worked on story development with producers and photographers, and assisted in on-location shoots.
From May 2007 to August 2010 she worked as an intern in different stations. First as an editorial intern for The District Weekly, newsroom intern at KTVU Fox 2 and lastly as a production intern at CNNMoney.com.
In August 2009 she joined Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism as a graduate assistant. She went on business journalism.org bi-weekly to the “Biz Beat Insider” site, contacted media outlets to arrange interviews with the president of the company, and also supported office executives in planning and preparing for events as needed.
In August 2010 she joined Cronkite News, PBS, Arizona State University as an anchor and multimedia journalist. She then joined Northland ‘s News Center in March 2011 where she worked as an anchor in the morning and a multimedia reporter. In April 2013 she joined WDRB News as a news reporter before leaving in June 2015 to join channel 9.

Courtney is an amputee after she lost her leg in a boating accident on September 15, 2017. She had gone boating with her husband, Ryan Vovaczyk, on Christmas Lake when he made a sharp turn and she was thrown overboard. Her foot became entangled in the boat’s propeller. The propeller took off her foot and the doctors had to amputate part of her lower leg.
After the accident, Ryan was taken into custody for suspicion of criminal vehicular operation with bodily harm and authorities conducted a toxicology test. He was booked at Hennepin County Jail but was later released. Relatives of the couple released a statement saying that alcohol wasn’t a factor during the accident.
They said: ‘Courtney and Ryan are together, she’s recovering in good spirits, they appreciate the love and support and ask for privacy to focus on healing.’
