Danny is the adopted son of Little Richard. He adopted him at the age one after his mother died. His mother was a church associate of Little Richard.

Little Richard was born Richard Wayne Penniman in Macon on 5 December 1932 as a third born in a family of 12 children. He was an American singer, songwriter, and musician, and self-proclaimed architect of rock ‘n’ roll. He got his first record contract with RCA in 1951, but they stifled him by signing him to do low key blues songs where he was unable to use his trademark screams and wails.

He found success in 1955 with his signature style when a producer from Specialty Records hired him on to be the frontman for a New Orleans group. That year his first hit, “Tutti-Frutti” made it to number 17 on the Billboard Charts.

Danny’s biological mother’s name is unknown but her adoptive mother is Ernestine Campbell.  Ernestine was married to Little Richard for two years. They got married on July 11, 1959, she was a secretary from Washington, D.C. The couple divorced in 1961.

In his autobiography, Little Richard said that he was neglectful as a husband to Ernestine and he loved her more as a sister than a wife. Ernestine on her part said; “I don’t regret that we didn’t have children because we always had each other. We’re still very close. It doesn’t matter who comes or goes, I’m usually in touch with him and he stays in touch with me.”
