Dr. Nicole is married to Dr. Paul Saphier who is a neurosurgeon based in New Jersey. He is also a medical contributor for local news broadcasts, radio shows, and the occasional appearance on Fox & Friends.
The couple met when Saphier was in medical school and Paul had flown to Arizona for a conference.
“So, I’d love to say that I met my husband when I was in medical school, because, technically, I was in medical school when I met my husband, but he had flown to Arizona for a conference and we were at a social gathering following the conference. So technically we met at a bar. But it was a bar from a medical conference. He was in fellowship at the time. He’s an endovascular neurosurgeon, so his specialty is treating brain aneurysms and strokes, and I had been involved in research regarding certain spine devices, so that’s why I was at the same conference that he was.”

Nicole gave birth to her eldest son, Nick in April 2000. He is currently a student at the University of Mississippi. In May 201 8 she wrote an op-ed on Fox News titled “What Planned Parenthood could learn from me: Being a teenage mom was hard, but it sure didn’t ruin my life” where she revealed that she got pregnant when she started her senior year of high school. She said that her decision to have her son rather than abort was not based on political or religious beliefs but on emotion and responsibility.

“The concept really reached my heart. Many women were obtaining mammograms and when they were told they were normal, they would ignore a lump they subsequently found in their breasts because they had complete faith in their mammograms.”
She acknowledges that mammography is imperfect but says it is still the best screening modality for all types of breast density.
“The addition of ultrasound, MRI and digital tomosynthesis (3-D imaging of the breast using X-rays) can help what mammography misses but mammography itself should not be replaced. MRI and ultrasound will not see the subtle calcifications that can indicate early invasive malignancy.”
She says that her commitment to the fight against breast cancer was inspired by her grandmother’s experience.
“My grandmother, who I affectionately called ‘Mommom,’ did not pursue the lump in her breast because she was embarrassed to get examined by her physician. I attempt to see my patients and explain everything to them best as possible so they never feel uncomfortable coming to see me about their breasts. I want them to feel empowered and be in control of their healthcare.”
Nicole serves in the NYC healthcare community as a member of the local Board of Health, the Economic Development Advisory Committee, as well as being named the Chairperson of the Joint Municipal Alliance. She also serves the New Jersey Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in an advisory capacity.
