A shooting in East Memphis drew the attention of Memphis police on Monday night. Two girls were killed in a shooting at a neighborhood petrol station on Friday night, which also injured another teen and a 9-month-old baby.
Around 9:30 p.m., a gas station on Elvis Presley Boulevard, just down the street from Graceland, was shot up.

Three adolescent girls and a baby were at a gas pump inside a red Infiniti when a dark-colored Nissan pulled up alongside them and fired numerous bullets, according to Memphis Police. The Nissan’s driver fled the scene.

A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, but they died from their injuries the next morning, according to authorities. The baby and another 16-year-old are in non-critical condition.

Phillexus Buchanan, 15, and Breunna Woods were the victims, according to Tonya Dockins. Buchanan was a 10th grader at Hamilton High School, and she would have turned 16 this month, according to her. Both of the adolescents killed were Shelby County Schools students, with one attending Wooddale High School.

Buchannan’s aunt said she still can’t believe her niece is gone. She’d remember her niece’s devilish smile and enthusiasm for cheerleading. The worst aspect, she claimed, is that her siblings are having a hard time processing her death.

“It hurts,” she said. “My little sister, she is unable to speak. Her father is unable to speak. They don’t know what impact this does to families. These people don’t think they have anything to live for, but they do. They have other babies.”

“Shelby County Schools is aware of the passing of Wooddale and Hamilton High School students,” the district said in an emailed statement. “However, we are unable to share any personal information. Grief counselors are offering support for students and staff. We share our deepest condolences with the families during this time.”
