Gavin Greene is the son of Kevin Greene, who is a member of the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gavin Greene is a Niceville, FL, 6-1 Inside Linebacker. He attended Niceville High School. At Niceville High School, he played for Head Coach John Hicks. He was FloridaHSFootball.com Honorable Mention Class 6A All-State Elite Team pick. In 2016, he was named to the Subway All-Star Team.

According to his High School Scouting Report, he committed to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on April 7, 2016. At University of Southern Mississippi College, he played for head coach Jay Hopson.

He then transferred to the College of Mississippi. In 2018, for the Choctaws, he appeared in seven games and was called to the Gulf South Academic Honor Roll. He appeared in all 10 games in 2019, starting six on the Choctaws’ defensive line. He tallied 19 tackles with 11 stops for a solo. He also notched 2.0 sacks for the season with two fumble recoveries. He had a season-high three tackles in four separate games, tallied sacks against North Greenville (09.21) and West Georgia (Nov. 2), recovered fumbles against West Alabama (11.09) and Delta State (11.16), and, according to his profile on the Mississippi College website, was named to the Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll.

For the Green Bay Packers from 2009 through 2013 and the New York Jets from 2017 through 2018, he was also an outside linebackers mentor. Among all-time sack leaders, Greene ranks seventh, leading the NFL in that category twice. He was a three-time All-Star, was named to the All-Decade Team of the 1990s National Football League and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016. On December 21, 2020, he died.

Kevin Greene Left his Coaching Career to be with his Family

Greene, along with former Steeler Jason Gildon, worked as an assistant linebackers coach during training camp during the 2008 season as an internship with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Greene was recruited as an Outside Linebackers Coach by Dom Capers for the Green Bay Packers on January 26, 2009.

Greene played for Capers as a Steeler for two years, and then accompanied Capers to Carolina when Capers was named the Panthers’ first head coach. The Packers won Super Bowl XLV on February 6, 2011, the first time that Greene had ever been part of an NFL championship team.

It was announced on January 17, 2014 that he would step away from coaching “in order to spend more time with (his) wife, Tara, and (his) kids, Gavin and Gabrielle.” After his kids are in college, he wants to return to coaching.
