Jonathan Kolia Favreau was born on October 19, 1966, in Flushing, Queens, New York, to Madeleine, a special education teacher, and Charles Favreau, an elementary school teacher who died of leukemia in 1979. His mother was a Russian-Jewish Jew, while his father is a Catholic with Italian and French-Canadian background. Favreau quit Hebrew school to pursue a career in acting. Following his mother’s death, however, both sides of his family worked hard to make sure he had a Bar Mitzvah. Favreau attended Queens College from 1984 to 1987 before dropping out.
