Are Tights and Pantyhose In Style?

Are pantyhose in style in 2018? Fashion magazines and fashion bloggers certainly have mentioned that tights and pantyhose are in this year, but what does that mean exactly?

It must be the awfully tight subtext of “tights” and the word “pantyhose” that has women shrinking back. The words conjure images of our grandmothers squeezed and sucked uncomfortably into nylons. But we’ll let you in on a little secret. Okay, so it’s not much of a secret if you’ve Googled, “Are pantyhose in style?” and read the abundance of articles. Year after year, pantyhose styles find their way into celebrity fashions, make appearances on the runway, and gain the attention of fashion bloggers who hop on the trend and say, “This year is the year for legs!”

Are Pantyhose in Style?

Fall and spring’s runways were full of tights. In January 2018, Valentino showed a collection including pantyhose with open-toed shoes (we know, gasp!). The spring runway was ablaze with unique-colored tights. Then as the royal wedding approached, everyone buzzed about Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s perfect legs oh-so-sophisticated in sheer nude hosiery. There’s certainly not a lack of examples of well-known celebs wearing (and loving) pantyhose.

On Pinterest, search “Celebrity Pantyhose” and you will find some of your favorite celebs with gorgeous pantyhose-clad legs: Emma Watson, Zooey Deschanel, Victoria Justice, Jennifer Aniston, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift… the images go on and on. They all look stunningly stylish and sometimes even aspirationally edgy.

The question is not if tights and pantyhose are in style. The question is can we tolerate them? Since our grandmothers’ day, they’ve been made the same way – horribly tubular and sized for women with no curves and zero body fat – and that’s just not our real bodies (or how they ever were, frankly). It’s this fact that set us out in pursuit of the best of both worlds. A woman-owned startup shares our thoughts and dreams: Hipstik is a new brand of stylish tights and pantyhose that are actually comfortable (what?!?!).

This must be Aniston’s secret. Hipstik has a beautiful stretchy lace top that rest on your hips (no more of that hiked up to your bra situation) with a hidden silicone strip that keeps them in place (no more of that muffin top pinch or sagging situation). From opaque tights to sheer nudes in a variety of colors sized 2-24, Hipstik is the hosiery cocktail of quality, comfort, fit, and style. The most unique part we think is Hipstik’s body-shape sizing that throws the vile “how much do you weigh?” out the window. Check out Hipstik at hipstiks.com

So, the next time you’re worried about being judged in a pair of pantyhose—let’s drop the panty people and just call them hose—don’t be afraid to rock them. If you look good and feel great, that’s all that matters. Next we’ll be Pinteresting you.
