Vincent Tan had to give up his dream of continuing his education after graduating from HSBP due to his family’s financial situation. Instead, he went to work as a bank clerk. Later, in 1973, he joined the American International Assurance Company as a part-time agent.
While waiting for a client one day in 1973, he came across an article in the September issue of “Time Magazine” that piqued his interest. The post, titled “The Burger That Conquered the World,” struck a chord in his mind, and he began fantasizing about opening a McDonald’s franchise in Malaysia.
