There are common misconceptions out there surrounding haircuts for people with a round face. Possibly the biggest lie is that a round face will only suit one or two different hairstyles. Round faces are incredibly feminine and can actually pull off anything from a pixie cut to a shag cut. Here are just a few examples of hairstyles that enhance your beautiful round face.
Classic Pixie Cut
The pixie is classic and stunning, and you don’t need to have a face like Edie Sedgwick or Twiggy to rock one. A textured pixie cut done by the right stylist can look like you were been born to wear one. For round faces, a pixie cut with some extra height on the top of the cut sometimes works best. Layers that add some choppy height to the mix actually elongates your face by drawing attention to your forehead. However, hair texture and the overall shape of your head are big considerations when choosing the right style of pixie cut. Get the help of a stylist who is experienced in short haircuts to determine what type of pixie will work best for you.
Side-Swept Bangs
Both blunt bangs and side-swept bangs can frame and flatter a round face. Bangs that blend into your haircut create the illusion of a more lengthened face. In some instances, they might even make the face appear more oval. Side bangs can literally change the shape of your face while also requiring minimal-to-no effort to do. A choppy ‘do with bangs swept to the side is a great just-out-of-bed look and it feels great to mess up with some texture spray
Loose Curls
Curls that are too tight can make a round face look much wider than it is, but loose, beach-ready waves give off an illusion of length. They also work well to bring out more prominent features, giving round faces a more angular look to your face. Loose curls can be worn with a side or a center part, simply depending on which you prefer.
The Choppy Lob
Choppiness and layers in hair are great for those of us with round faces. They never fail to add height (not volume) to our hair that a round face really needs. Additionally, the lob – meaning a long bob – rests coolly at the shoulders, giving off the same feeling as a bob while effectively lengthening your face. The added length balances the roundness of the face, and a lob with square layers is never a bad idea.
Long, Glossy and Sleek
Choppy layers aren’t the only way to look great when you have a round face. Long, straight hair is one of the most effective cuts. Sleek hair will frame your face without accentuating its shape. Furthermore, the straighter and longer your hair is, the more it stretches out the length of your face to upset the imbalance.
Topknot
If you keep your hair long, there’s nothing stopping you from trying out a topknot. Whether sleek or messy, a topknot works wonders for lengthening your face. The bun will draw attention to the top of your head. In addition to making you look fabulous, or like the third Hadid sister, it’s a great look for summer. After all, nobody wants hair sticking to their face in the hot hot heat.
Boldly Blunt Bangs
You might’ve heard that round faces should steer clear of sharp cuts and heavy bangs, but blunt bangs can be made to look incredible on anyone who has a rounder face. Pairing these bold bangs with a long wave or even a layered lob will have you looking a million bucks.
Undercut? Why Not?
Not all punk rockers have long or oval faces, and a trendy undercut might be a bold move that you can pull off. Getting an undercut on one side of your head while keeping side-swept bangs on the other side is a great look. Regardless of your face shape, all you need to do is be brave and shoot for the moon. After all, why should others have all the fun?
Long and Layered
Similar to long, straight hair, long and tousled locks work perfectly to flatter rounder faces. The layers chop into wider faces, making them more streamlined. Top it off with a side part and beach waves, and you’ll be walking the runway in no time.
Messy Braids
Messy hair can sometimes work better than a smoother look. It’s also super sexy! Braids don’t have to be removed as soon as you go to bed. Next time, let them stay in when you go to bed and wake up just the way you are. Round or oblong-faced, you’ll be chock full of Parisienne chic.
