He was named solicitor general by outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte in 2016. From 2001 to 2004, he was also the Department of Justice’s Undersecretary. Calida’s personal assets increased in value from ₱32.156 million in 2017 to ₱64.263 million in 2021. The largest increase was his cash on hand and in the bank, which increased from ₱22.27 million in 2017 to ₱54.82 million in 2021.

Calida charged with both criminal and administrative offenses at the Ombudsman’s Office.
